After the third home in four months was burglarized Tuesday in the south Tracy division of Hidden Lake, neighbors have come out to say they often spot suspicious-looking young people checking doors to see if they’re locked.
Karen Crosby was stunned late Tuesday evening when she pulled up to her home on the 1600 block of East Lake Drive after her commute from Sacramento to find someone had kicked down her side door, ransacked her home and stolen her laptop, 32-inch flat screen TV and jewelry. Crosby believes the burglars also took her Yorkshire terrior named Sasha. She's offering a $2,500.00 reward for the dog.
Last Thursday, her day off, Crosby heard a knock at her front door around 4 p.m. She saw a man in his 20s without anything in his hand.
“It didn’t look like he was selling anything, so I didn’t answer,” she said.
Then she watched him walk through her grass to the next house with another young man. Crosby believes the pair were scoping out which houses sit empty during the day. A lot of homeowners in Hidden Lake, like Crosby, commute to work.
“I’ve never, ever had a negative experience in Hidden Lake, but if I could sell my house today I would,” said Crosby. “I feel so violated now.”

Her neighbor Mary Park said once a week someone knocks on her door to ask for money for college. They don’t carry papers and they are not selling anything, she explained.
“I think they’re just trying to see who’s home,” she said.
A second home was burglarized on the 2500 block of Almanor Drive in February and a third on the 1200 block of Tulloch Drive. No arrests have been made.
Tracy police officers are not changing their basic patrol patterns in Hidden Lake. But the city spokesman Matt Robinson urges people to keep an eye out.
“If the public sees something, a call to officers could prevent something from happening,” Robinson said. “We need the public to stay vigilant to protect their neighbors.”
